Black boxes are used in all planes to help document the events leading up to a crash to determine if there was a fault with the plane which needs to be addressed in the other planes or if the crash was caused by the pilot or the weather.

Now limousines have taken to installing ‘drive cams’ to film what is happening in the limo just before a crash. While the drive cams only record 30 seconds before a G-shock activates them, and 30 seconds after, they are able to give an accurate display of what happened before a crash to cause it.

The cameras which record the crashes are a good way for limousine hire companies to find out exactly what happened in the case of a crash to determine liability and help speed up the insurance claims process.

If something did happen to the driver, they may be unable to recount what actually happened during the accident and therefore, having the event recorded ensures the correct course of action is taken.

The camera also allows limo hire operators to check up on the stories of their chauffeurs in the case of an accident. The chauffeur may have said that ‘the light was green’ ‘I had right of way…’ but the camera will tell the limo hire operator what happened for sure and allow them the make a decision about whether to keep that particular chauffeur or not.

The cameras can also be set up to activate at any bad driving and can therefore alert the limo hire operators of chauffeurs who are mistreating the limousines, regardless of whether there are passengers in them or not.

So while ‘big brother’ is watching you everywhere, sometimes it really is for your own good and like they say, if you’re not doing anything wrong, you’ve go nothing to worry about. It simply instils peace of mind for passengers knowing their chauffeurs are taking extra care with their driving.
