Informed Chauffeurs

The chauffeurs are one of the most important parts of any limo hire company as they are the ones the customers have the most contact with and from whom the passengers are able to form an impression about the limo hire company, its quality and its service.

However, while the chauffeurs are integral to the successful operation of the limo hire company, should they also be privy to all of the internal information such as wages, profits, service charges and training programs?

Some limo hire companies think the chauffeurs should not have access to all of that information as they are simply employees and on some levels they are correct. When the employees are involved in the financial and business decision making, their role in the company changes from employee to a higher management or consulting role.

However, the chauffeurs should not be excluded from all of the decision making and should have access to information which relates to them. While the limo hire company operator may not share the exact profits and figures with the chauffeurs, they can inform their chauffeurs when the profits are down and they have to watch their money, or when they have had a good year and are looking for input about what to spend the extra income on – be it new cars, uniforms or advertising.

The chauffeurs also need to be informed with regards to their own contracts and wages and if the limo hire company operators are considering changing the wages or benefits of the chauffeurs, the chauffeurs should be consulted for their thoughts and feelings on the proposed changes. However, in the end, the final decision making should come down to the actual management staff and the limo hire company owner or operator.

So while the limo hire companies should treat their chauffeurs with respect and involve them in the decisions and provide information which directly affects them, there is a lot of information in a business which does not need to be shared with the chauffeurs, and especially not with anyone the chauffeur happens to open their mouth to.
